Coles has imposed restrictions on the amount of cash that customers can withdraw as some stores are heading towards becoming cashless this Easter long weekend.

Negotiations are ongoing between Armaguard, a secure cash delivery company, and the country's major banks and retailers regarding crucial funding. As a precautionary measure, Coles has decided to exercise caution with its current cash reserves.

The supermarket giant has halted all cash delivery services until April 5 due to concerns that Armaguard might face administration, potentially resulting in Coles' cash being stranded in the company's trucks.

In response to the limited availability of cash, Coles has set a withdrawal limit of $200 for customers to help maintain the cash reserves in its registers. A memo titled 'cash process update' has been circulated to Coles staff nationwide, advising that its grocery and liquor stores may temporarily transition to 'card only' transactions from March 27 to April 5.
